Children's Program
Ages 20 months to 7 years old
The IBA Children’s Program offers an introduction to the beautiful art of dance where young dancers will discover the fun and joy in the discipline of ballet, tap, and jazz. This program is designed for children to see, feel, and experience the beauty of this timeless art form.
No previous ballet training is necessary for these classes. Our Children's Program is based on age, regardless of prior experience.
Curriculum
Dance With Me | 20 months to 3 years old
Tulips | 5 and 6 years old
This program is a perfect introduction to dance and music for children with one adult companion, either Mother, Father, or Guardian. Guided by one of our experienced faculty members, classes will create a fun environment where you and your child can enjoy rhythm and movement.
Students will begin to learn the most basic arm/feet positions of classical ballet in conjunction with short choreographic exploration exercises. Through music and movement, your child will continue to develop their coordination, musicality, creativity, and memory. Dancers may participate at the End of Year performance.
Daisies | 3 and 4 years old
Roses | 6 and 7 years old
Our very youngest dancers will begin to experience the joy which comes from creative movement. They will learn how to follow directions in a group setting through imaginative dance activities. This class seeks to engage the young dancers in fun musical activities to develop their coordination, fine motor skills, good listening ears, and spatial awareness. Dancers may participate at the End of Year performance.
Violets | 4 and 5 years old
We are still very focused on enjoying creative expression through the art of dance. We aim to build on the development of their coordination, fine motor skills, and spatial awareness. In this class, the dancers will learn to be more aware of how music and dance work together. We promote the development of their imagination and good etiquette within the ballet classroom. Dancers may participate at the End of Year performance.
This class expands on the students’ developing ballet vocabulary previously introduced, through the exploration of primary ballet technique and choreographic exercises. There is a focus on the more technical aspects of dance which are needed for the higher levels of classical ballet such as balance, posture, body alignment, musicality, and spatial awareness. Basic stretching and strengthening exercises are implemented in order to prepare the body for more formal training. Dancers may participate at the End of Year performance.
